Stiffened Lace Heart Tutorial for Valentine's Day

Hello,
Today I am going to share a quick and easy tutorial
for making wired lace hearts.
The first is a stiffened lace heart
made with same technique that I used
Materials Needed:
Clothes hanger or piece of heavy wire
Lace ~I used 6" gathered lace for this
Home made Mod Podge = All purpose glue and water
white spray paint (if desired for the wire)
I started by reshaping my wire clothes hanger
into the shape of a heart
Then I spray painted it white so it would blend in with
the lace.
Thread the clothes hanger through the little "pocket"
at the bottom of the gathered lace.
~this is like threading a curtain rod through a curtain pocket~
The amount of lace you will need will depend on the
size of your heart... I used approx. 4 yards of lace for mine.
Once you have your lace threaded onto the wire
dip your lace wire and all into a bowl of
home made mod podge =
approx. 1 cup of glue to 1 cup of water
mixed well to the consistency of milk.
Or you could also use Aleen's or another brand of fabric stiffener.
Thoroughly saturate the lace with the mixture.
You will want to cover your table or work
area with saran wrap, aluminum foil or wax paper.
I used saran wrap for mine.
Then shape the lace around the wire heart
and let dry overnight.
Once dry add a bow and your finished!
I reused the pink bow from my Plant Stand Christmas Tree.
I hung this on my mirror in the dining room
with a string of clear fishing line.
I also did some smaller wired hearts
by threading floral wire onto 1" gathered pre-stiffened lace
and adding ribbons, pearls and roses.
I used approx. 24" of lace for these.
After wiring the lace simply shape into a heart and decorate.

I hope you enjoyed these,
Love,
Beverly

Easy Valentine's Day House ~ Sweet Pink Confection!

Well since we were snowed in for 3 days me and my son Derrick
decided to make a Valentine house.

This was so easy and all you need are
pink strawberry wafer cookies, canned icing and assorted candies.

Here are the directions:
Start by assembling 4 walls using icing as the morter.
Then stand each wall up and icing the 4 corners.
Let dry for approx. 2 hrs. for icing to set.
Assemble 2 sections for the roof and join them with icing.
Icing the top section of the house where the roof will set and then set the roof on top.
I used toothpicks to hold the roof in place until it set.
Cut corners off of some of the cookies and fill in under the roof with icing.

I found the easiest way to do this is using a toothpick to hold them.
Again let dry for approx. 2 hours for the icing to set.
Once dry icing the roof and apply candy decorations.
Let dry overnight and then remove the toothpicks.
Hint: To speed up drying time you can preheat your oven and then turn it off
and place the house on a cookie sheet and put in oven while warm.
*** Do not leave oven on or it will burn***

Pink and white conversation heart candies decorate the roof.
We used a red Hershey's Kiss for the chimney!

A pink starburst and some red skittles for the windows.
Red Licorice for the door and sides.
This was so much fun I was ready to do a whole village...
but Derrick was bored after this one and was ready to go play in the snow.

But I am still thinking of little ice cream cone trees and a red hot's sidewalk!
Happy Valentine's Day ♥
I hope you enjoyed this and thank you for looking

Easy And Elegant Valentine Feather Heart Ornaments

I am going to share with you how to make these easy and elegant Valentine heart shaped feather ornaments.

These are so easy to make and all you need is:
2 feathers the same length
a cool temp glue gun
and a piece of string or ribbon.

Begin by bending each feather sideways around your finger
to make the shape of a half of heart.

Apply some low temp glue to the top where the feathers criss cross.

Next apply some low temp glue to the bottom of the feathers where they criss cross.

Tie a piece of string or ribbon at the top and you are done!

Thank you and I hope you enjoyed looking at these.

Sooo Easy Paper Clip Valentine Garland

As promised I am going to share with you
how to make paper clip Valentine's Garland.
These are soooo easy and all you need are a package of plastic coated paper clips.
I picked mine up at the dollar store.
You just sort out the colors that you would like to use and clip them together.
I used red, white and pink in mine.
It is that easy!
I used mine to decorate my Valentine Tree
but they would also be great to hang above a doorway
or a window to hang cards, ornaments or a banner.
Thank you for looking!

Valentine's Day Tree

I just wanted to share my Valentine's Day Tree with you.
These are so easy to make.
I went outside and cut some branches off of a tree
and tied them together with a rubber band.
Since we still have snow on the ground here
I decided to spray them with a can of white snow instead of spray paint.
After the snow was dry I put the branches in one of my
vintage milk glass vases.

I had trouble deciding which one to use but I finally decided on the tallest hobnail vase.
I decorated them with a small string of white lights.

Then I added a garland that I made from plasic coated paper clips
and some of my feather heart ornaments.
(I will post tutorials for these soon)

This is what I have so far I know it looks a little bare
but as soon as I get more made I will post some more pictures.

I hope you have enjoyed looking.

How To Make A Valentine's Day Gift Bag From A Recycled Pop Tart Box

Today I will be sharing with you how to make a Valentine's Day gift bag from a recycled pop tart box.
This is a great way to reuse empty boxes and scraps of wrapping paper and have a beautiful one of a kind gift bag. I used old Victorian Post Card Images that I found on the web and printed them out on plain white copy paper.

Materials Needed:
Empty Pop Tart Box
Wrapping Paper
Glue Stick
All Purpose Glue
Glitter
Scissors
Valentine Image's (Old cards, Post Cards or Printed Image's)
12 inch piece of ribbon
Embelishments of your choice (lace, buttons, charms, etc.)

Here are the instructions:
Cut the top flaps off the top of an empty pop tart box.

Then sit the box on the wrapping paper and trace around the bottom of the box. You will then cut the paper about a 1/2 inch wider around than what you traced. Glue the bottom of the box using your glue stick and adhere the paper to the bottom of the box. Then glue about 1/2' above the bottom of the box and fold the paper up around the sides making sure all paper is flat against the box.

Then you will lay the box down sideways and measure about 1 inch longer than the sides and cut the paper making sure you leave enough length to wrap around all 4 sides of the box. (Tip: I have found it is easiest if you use the precut edge of the wrapping paper to go around the bottom because it is strait.) Using your glue stick glue all the sides of the box and wrap the paper around making sure all paper is flat. Then you will fold the extra top 1" of paper down and glue to the inside of the box.

Take a Valentine Card image and glue to the box. You can use old cards, post cards or their are lots of free downloadable images on the web. On this one I put an image on the front and a different image on the back. Next you will use all purpose glue around the image and anywhere else you want to add glitter and then add the glitter and shake off excess and let dry. You could also add buttons, charms, pearls or anything else you may like.

Once the glue is dried you will punch a hole on each side of the box for the handle. Finish off with a piece of ribbon about 12 inches long. Thread the ribbon on each side from the outside to the inside and tie with a knot.

Now you have a beautiful gift bag to fill with those special items for a special friend or loved one!

Here are some links for free Victorian Post Card Images:
These are just a few I know there are hundreds more out there.

These could be decorated so many different ways.
They would also be a great Valentine project for kids.
I think these will be a great project for my Sunday School Class next week!

Thank you for looking and I hope you enjoy making this project!
Happy Valentine's Day!
